Ray Loy

Visitor Experience and Services Manager

Ray is the Visitor Experience & Services manager at the Chinese Canadian Museum. Born in Hong Kong, his family immigrated to Vancouver when he was an infant, and settled in Chinatown. Ray attended Strathcona Elementary nearby and Chinese school at night, as his mother wouldn’t allow him to abandon his mother tongue.

He returned to Strathcona to coach youth basketball as a young adult and began his career as an insurance agent, eventually moving back to Hong Kong to teach English. Returning to Vancouver, he pursued a fire-fighting career before developing a passion for food and beverage and worked in local restaurants (Joe Fortes, Market by Jean Georges, Bacchus at the Wedgewood, to name a few). This path opened the door for him to eventually open his own restaurant in nearby Gastown. Ray is thrilled to utilize his experience in hospitality to elevate the visitor experience at CCM.

Outside of work, Ray is an avid basketball player, and enjoys doing celebrity impressions and belting out Cantopop at karaoke.
