FAQs
Yes. Research appointments (in-person or virtual) are complimentary. Admission is waived on the day of your visit, and staff will direct you to the Research Desk.
Saturdays & Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (Hours are subject to change, please confirm when booking.)
Each appointment is about 45 minutes per session with a maximum of three appointments per day.
Genealogical records via Library and Archives Canada (Immigrants from China, 1885–1952), including:
- General Registers of First Entry
- C.I.44 Forms and Indexes
- C.I.9 Travel Permits
The museum can also assist with navigating additional primary sources, such as:
- Chinese Times newspaper online archive
- Ancestry database
- Records outside this scope may require a professional genealogist.
Please include as much of the following information as possible:
- Name(s)
- Date of Birth and/or Passing
- Picture of Tombstone (if applicable)
- Date of arrival in Canada
- Any relevant immigration documents (e.g., Head Tax certificates, citizenship papers)
