Brian McBay
Brian McBay (he/him) is a designer, administrator, planner, and financial manager in the
arts & culture and social purpose real estate sectors with over 15 years of experience.
He is the founder and Executive Director of 221A and 221A Artist Housing Society, a
non-profit cultural space operator with over 140,000ft of artist studios, housing, and
programming space in Vancouver, Canada. He is part of a new generation of collaborative leaders aiming to advance the public appreciation of the arts while also reversing inequality, xenophobia, and colonialism in Canada.
He holds a Bachelor of Design degree from Emily Carr University and was named a 2018 Fellow at the Salzburg Global Forum. In addition to his role at 221A, McBay has been appointed to non-profit and public sector boards including the City of Vancouver Arts and Culture Advisory Committee, the Chinese-Canadian Museum, the National Gallery of Canada, and the Vancouver International Film Festival.
