Chinese Canadian Museum Receives the City of Vancouver's Heritage Award

What began as a dream to preserve Chinese Canadian stories inside Vancouver’s oldest brick building has grown into a living museum. On October 15, 2025, that dream was recognized as the Chinese Canadian Museum was given the City of Vancouver Heritage Award for Outstanding Achievement in Living Heritage.

This award celebrates more than a building; it celebrates a community — generations of families, artists, and storytellers whose histories continue to shape the city we call home.

From preserving and interpreting Chinese Canadian experiences through exhibitions, oral histories, and programs, to advancing reconciliation and cultural redress, and fostering partnerships with Indigenous communities, this is a shared victory for everyone who believes in the power of memory and belonging.

Thank you to the City of Vancouver for this recognition!

The Outstanding Achievement in Living Heritage award highlights self-expressed heritage within Vancouver’s communities and recognizes projects that support reconciliation, cultural redress, or the safeguarding and regeneration of living heritage. This award honours the museum’s work, including exhibitions such as the inaugural Odysseys and Migration, and its ongoing commitment to preserving and interpreting Chinese Canadian experiences while advancing meaningful community partnerships.
