Peter Hum
Peter Hum is an award-winning journalist with the Ottawa Citizen, the major daily newspaper in Canada’s capital. Over a 35-year career spent entirely at his hometown paper, Peter has covered beats ranging from municipal politics to criminal trials to the tech sector to the arts. Peter’s grandfather, uncles and father owned much-loved Chinese Canadian restaurants in Ottawa from 1910 to 1985, and while Peter did not follow in their footsteps, he has been the Ottawa Citizen’s restaurant critic since 2012. Most recently for the Ottawa Citizen, Peter wrote a longform article about his own family history, titled “Finding My Village: How I Retraced my Ancestors’ Journey from Ottawa to China and Back.” He is also a jazz pianist, and has released three acclaimed recordings of his original compositions.
