Imogene Lim

A descendant of Cumberland and Vancouver’s Chinatowns (two head-tax payers) and anthropologist by training, Dr. Lim’s expertise in Chinese Canadian communities, especially on Vancouver Island, spans well over two decades. Her work has included collaborations with local museums. She is a founding member of the Chinese Canadian Historical Society of BC and worked with the BC Legacy Initiatives Advisory Council on the Historic Sites and Celebration book projects.

She co-developed the exhibit, 150 Years and Counting: Fighting for Justice on the Coast (UVic & VIU 2017), served as an exhibition advisory committee member for A Seat at the Table (MOV, UBC INSTRRC & CCM 2020), including the writing of panel texts, and co-curated the pop-up exhibit, Dishing Up Memories: Eating Chinese in BC (CCM 2022).

Dr. Lim was a 2020 Province of BC Medal for Good Citizenship recipient and 2025 recipient of the King Charles III Coronation Medal. She received a Ruth Masters Hero Spoon, in 2002, for her work in preserving Cumberland’s Coal Creek Historic Park.
