Join us for an opening talk on Asian Comics: Evolution of an Art Form with curator Paul Gravett.

Explore the diversity of comics in Asia by delving behind the scenes of Asian Comics. In this talk, comics historian, journalist, and guest curator Paul Gravett will present an overview of the evolution of Asian comics from their early graphic traditions to contemporary digital innovations in the art form. Through some of the 400+ key works featured in the exhibition and their creators, this talk will highlight the rich, interconnected histories and global influence of Asian comics.

Tickets include full access to Asian Comics and all other exhibitions on view at the Chinese Canadian Museum before the talk.

Paul Gravett

Paul Gravett is a London-based freelance journalist, curator, lecturer, writer, and broadcaster, who has worked in comics publishing and promotion since 1981.

He has curated numerous exhibitions of comic art in Britain and in Europe, including God Save the Comics!, a survey of British comic art at the National Comics and Image Centre in Angoulême, France and the first exhibit devoted to the writer Alan Moore and his collaborators at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Charleroi, Belgium. As Project Director of The Cartoon Art Trust in London, he worked on tributes to Carl Giles and Charles Schulz, creator of Peanuts, and The 100 British Cartoonists of the Century. His subsequent exhibitions have included retrospectives of Jack Kirby at the Fumetto Festival in Lucerne, and of Tove Jansson and Posy Simmonds at the Belgian Comics Art Museum in Brussels.

Among more recent projects which he has curated or co-curated in London are Comics Unmasked: Art and Anarchy in the UK at The British Library, Comix Creatix: 100 Women Making Comics at House of Illustration, and Queer as Comics at the Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration.
