Traces of the Chinese Exclusion Act | Montreal

Curious about how the Chinese Exclusion Act impacted families in Montreal? We are excited to announce the launch of a new satellite exhibition in Montreal's Chinatown of Catherine Clement's The Paper Trail to the 1923 Chinese Exclusion Act in collaboration with JIA Foundation.

"Traces of the Chinese Exclusion Act" follows the history of Chinese Montrealers during the era of the discriminatory laws of the Exclusion Act.

Join documentary filmmaker Karen Cho for a fascinating conversation with curator and creator Catherine Clement and Simon Wing, son of a Montreal head tax payer and advocate for head tax redress.

  • Location: Chinatown House, 1088 Rue Clark, Montreal

  • Date: Saturday, March 23, 2024

  • Time: 2:00-4:30 p.m. EDT
Exhibit opens at 2:00 p.m. and the discussion begins at 3:00 p.m.
