Celebrate Pride at the Museum

Celebrate Pride Month at the Museum!

Join us for a joyful, family-friendly event that honours diversity, creativity, and inclusion as we celebrate Pride Month together.

Enjoy a special story time reading of From the Stars in the Sky to the Fish in the Sea written by acclaimed Chinese Canadian writer and performance artist Kai Cheng Thom. This beautiful children’s book gently explores themes of gender identity and unconditional love through the eyes of a child and their supportive parent. Story times will be led in English, Cantonese and Mandarin by Hostion Ho, an advocate, performer, and leader in the queer Asian community in Vancouver.

After the reading, take part in a hands-on, interactive art-making activity inspired by the story!

This all-ages event is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate identity, self-expression, and uplift diverse voices in our community.

About From the Stars in the Sky to the Fish in the Sea:

In the magical time between night and day, when both the sun and the moon are in the sky, a child is born in a little blue house on a hill. And Miu Lan is not just any child, but one who can change into any shape they can imagine. The only problem is they can't decide what to be: a boy or a girl? A bird or a fish? A flower or a shooting star? At school, though, they must endure inquisitive looks and difficult questions from the other children, and have trouble finding friends who will accept them for who they are. But they find comfort in the loving arms of their mother, who always offers them the same loving refrain: "whatever you dream of / i believe you can be / from the stars in the sky to the fish in the sea. \"
