What to expect:
Get ready for a week (or two!) of kids’ summer camps packed with Chinatown adventures, hands-on art, and storytelling brought to life through music and performance!
Campers will have the exciting opportunity to create alongside professional performance artists Five Blessings Collective. Their multimedia stage work, Double Happiness, features the stories of two Chinese families and their migration journeys to Canada.
Guided by theatre artists and musicians, participants will learn songs, make props, and tell stories using writing and movement. By the end of each week, campers will present their own unique version of Double Happiness in a special Friday performance at the museum.
For a more immersive experience, we encourage families to register for both weeks, allowing campers to deepen their storytelling, sharpen performance skills, build friendships, and collaborate on a more fully developed final showcase.
Join us for a fun-filled, hands-on summer adventure at the Chinese Canadian Museum where creativity and imagination take centre stage!
Camp highlights:
Work with and learn from a team of professional theatre artists on a live show!
Make art inspired by the museum’s exhibitions
Explore iconic Chinatown landmarks on special field trips
Campers will:
Experience the creative process of performing arts
Gain a deeper appreciation for Chinatown’s vibrant culture
Create meaningful connections and make new friends!
Please note:
This program will run in English. Facilitators and volunteers will have varying degrees of Cantonese and Mandarin language
Lunch is not provided
We cannot provide personal care, administer medication, or provide one-to-one assistance on an ongoing basis
About Five Blessings Collective:
FIVE BLESSINGS is made up of five Chinese-Canadian artists who create theatre, sound and music, movement, and performance. We are: Nancy Tam, Derek Chan, Robyn Jacob, Jasmine Chen, and Howard Dai. We're five 1st and 2nd-generation Hong Kong and Taiwanese settlers to Turtle Island. Our work celebrates the complexities found within stories and traditions from the Chinese diaspora through songs, audio plays, film, and stage works.
Double Happiness is led by Nancy Tam and Robyn Jacob, joined by Kevin Romain on drums and Jeff Gammon on bass.
