On September 24, explore the moon with H.R. MacMillan Space Centre, create your own crafts to bring home, or join a Cross Cultural Walking Tour to learn more about the history of Chinatown and surrounding neighbours, for which our museum is the final destination. <\/p>\n

On September 29, experience a culinary classic of Mid-Autumn celebrations with mooncake tasting (while supplies last)! Starting mid-autumn day, the first 200 visitors will receive a special Chinese Canadian Museum mooncake postcard and White Rabbit candy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

EVENT SCHEDULE FOR SEPTEMBER 24:<\/h2>\n

Mooncake Lantern Crafts with Janice Wu\u00a0|\u00a0 11 A.M. – 1 P.M.<\/h4>\n

Make a mooncake lantern with us to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival at the Chinese Canadian Museum! Local artist and illustrator, Janice Wu, will be leading a kid-friendly workshop where she will show participants a painting relief technique with oil pastels and watercolour. Draw and paint your very own mooncakes and construct a Chinese paper lantern to take home! Each lantern comes with a candle to light for your evening stroll under the autumn full moon. Workshop is free to attend with museum entrance; come drop-in during the event times! <\/em>Reserve your spot here.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n

Roving on the Moon with H.R. MacMillan Space Centre\u00a0 |\u00a0 2 P.M. – 4 P.M.<\/h4>\n

The Space Centre will be in Chinatown at the Chinese Canadian Museum to help celebrate the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival with hands on activities for families to participate in! We are bringing Roving on the Moon to you, where kids can craft and design their own rovers with Ozobots and try their hand at easy coding. As part of their mission, kids will get to test out their Ozobot rovers on a map of the moon. Suitable for children ages 8-12. Workshop is free to attend with museum entrance; come drop-in during the event times! <\/em>Reserve your spot here.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n

Cross Cultural Walking Tours\u00a0 | 9 A.M. – 11 A.M. & 1 P.M. – 3 P.M.<\/h4>\n

Join Cross Cultural Walking Tours during the Fire Dragon Festival for a 4km walk through the Downtown Eastside, Paueru-Gai, Jewish Strathcona, Hogan’s Alley, and Chinatown. This 2-hour educational grassroots program dives into the systemic oppression, racism, displacement and impact of urban renewal experienced by many marginalized communities THEN and NOW, sharing history and stories together in one tour.<\/em><\/p>\n

Starting location, accessibility info and further instructions will be sent out to those who register. Only registered participants will be allowed to join the walking tour. Thank you for your understanding.<\/em><\/p>\n
